Coppersmith Barbet (Megalaima haemacephala) by alabang on Flickr.
Meet the Coppersmith Barbet, Crimson-breasted Barbet or Coppersmith (Megalaima haemacephala). It’s a bird with a crimson forehead and throat best known for its metronomic call that has been likened to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer. It is a resident found in South Asia and parts of Southeast Asia. Like other barbets, they chisel out a hole inside a tree to build their nest. They are mainly fruit eating but will take sometimes insects, especially winged termites.

Cambacica (Coereba flavicola ou Coereba flaveola) no Ipê-roxo bola - Bananaquit and the Pau D’Arco Bark - 13-06-2008 - IMG_4446 by Flávio Cruvinel Brandão on Flickr.
This bird is called the bananaquit. It’s the only one of its kind, but how hilarious would it be if there were birds called the orangequit, strawberryquit, or kiwiquit?
